IMH mining companies practically do not place waste on the daylight surface. KMAruda operates a system of hydraulic backfilling of tailings into the mined-out space, unique for the Russian mining industry. The volume of backfilled rock is over 2.5 million tons per year. Hydraulic backfilling eliminates the need to store tailings waste on the surface, which in turn eliminates waste dust and minimizes the impact on the water environment due to the organization of a closed-loop water circulation system.
